Ask Yahoo!

When I was first starting out as a professional writer, I wrote a daily column called “Ask Yahoo.” Maybe the best job I ever had.

Essentially, people would write in with fun/ridiculous/silly/surprisingly deep questions. I would then do my best to research them and write up a coherent answer. We published five times a week.

Sadly (at least to me), Ask Yahoo! (and its later version, Ask Mike) are no longer online, but I did track down a few examples.

Do mosquitoes play a single positive role in the world?

How did the tradition of dumping Gatorade on football coaches begin?

Do metering lights do more harm than good?

Why can’t you take the tag off your mattress?

What was the very first “Alan Smithee” film?

Why do the Pittsburgh Steelers have a logo on only one side of their helmets?

Were Post-It Notes really created by accident?
